This Simple Blondie Recipe Like Grandma Used to Make is rich, packed with buttery flavor and slightly crisp around the edges. If you want the best dessert squares for your sweet tooth...you should give this blondie recipe a try!

Blondies are a dessert bar that originate in the United States. Instead of using chocolate, they are made with brown sugar, vanilla and white chocolate chips. They are the exact opposite of the brownie which is made with chocolate!
Blondies used to be called brownies in the past. By the mid 1900s they were known as blonde brownies and later were called what they are now, blondies!
I was not a white chocolate fan in all honesty until I tried these. I fell in love with the flavor combinations with the butter, white chocolate chips and the texture with the vanilla flavor. They melted in my mouth and I was in heaven. I had to create them myself and I did! Now I make these regularly and the kids love them too! I always know its a good recipe when they can't stop eating whatever it was I made.

What Ingredients Are in Blondies?

- All purpose flour- I use unbleached flour.
- Baking powder- The baking powder helps raise the blondies slightly. This allows them to be a bit lighter and fluffier instead of being heavy and flat.
- Salt-The salt enhances the flavor and helps balance out the sweetness from the sugar.
- Unsalted melted butter- Using unsalted butter makes it easy to adjust the salt to your own preference.
- Light brown sugar- The light brown sugar gives them a slight caramel flavor and adds moisture and depth. It also creates a darker colour for the blondies.
- Vanilla extract- Adds a warm flavor and enhances the overall taste of them.
- Eggs, separated- The extra egg yolk adds richness, moisture and more texture.
- White chocolate chips- Adds a perfect sweetness which compliments the rich buttery taste of the blondies.

How Do You Make Blondies?

Blondies before going to the oven.

Blondies when removed from the oven.
This Simple Blondie Recipe Like Grandma Used to Make recipe is simple to make, its my favorite dessert and it doesn't require an electric mixer or any special equipment.
- Pre-heat oven to 350 and line a 8x8 metal baking pan with parchment paper. Set it aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, add in the flour, baking powder and salt. Whisk the dry ingredients and set it aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine butter and the brown sugar. Mix.
- Add the eggs into the bowl. Combine until smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla.
- Sift the flour mixture over the wet ingredients.
- Mix until just combined. Make sure not to over mix.
- Fold in the white chocolate chips.
- Add the batter to the pan. The batter is thick and will have to be smoothed out evenly. I do this with a rubber spatula or a large spoon.
- Bake in the oven for 18-20 minutes. These blondies are done in my oven at exactly 18 minutes.
- Once the edges are slightly browned remove from the oven and place them on a cooling rack to cool. Once cooled slice them into bars.

Variations
You can add ⅓ cup of chopped walnuts or chopped pecans if you would like, just make sure to add them at the same time you are adding the white chocolate chips.
Enjoy this sweet treat on its own or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top or butter pecan ice cream. Butter pecan ice cream is my favorite ice cream!
Storage
Store these in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days. I personally like them at room temperature. These blondies freeze well. Place them in a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
