This easy French toast recipe uses thick slices of fluffy bread that are dipped in a creamy mixture with cinnamon, then topped with a dollop of butter and a drizzle of pure maple syrup.

This is my family’s go to easy breakfast recipe, and one of my favorite things about it is how well it freezes! I love making extra batches over the weekend, freezing them, and having them ready for busy school mornings when there’s no time to make a big breakfast.

If you are wanting other topping suggestions other than maple syrup try out this homemade Saskatoon berry sauce or strawberry sauce and serve it with a side pan fried potatoes. I have even topped it with homemade cranberry sauce that’s been leftover from the holidays!

Recipe Ingredients

  • Eggs: Large eggs.
  • Whole Milk: I use whole milk as it makes the texture creamier.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream: I find this makes for the BEST French toast but you can use milk instead of the heavy cream.
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Cinnamon: You can adjust the amount of cinnamon used as some people like to add more and some don’t like it at all.
  • Salt
  • Vanilla Extract: Pure is always better but artificial works great too!
  • Bread: Use your favorite thick bread, this recipe makes 12 slices for our family.
  • Vegetable oil for cooking on the griddle
