Stove Top Popcorn

A simple and delicious movie night snack
Total Time 10 minutes
Serving Size 4 people

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or coconut oil
  • 3 Tbsp-1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Measure the popcorn kernels and set them aside.
  • In a large stainless steel heavy bottomed pot, add in the oil and a few kernels over medium high heat and place the lid on.
  • When the kernels all pop, remove the pot from the heat.
  • Quickly add the rest of the kernels to the pot and place the lid on with it slightly tilted to leave a crack to allow steam to escape. Count to 30.
  • Place the pot back on the burner on medium high heat with the lid still slightly tilted, leaving a small crack and shake the pot back and forth gently the whole time as the kernels pop.
  • When popping has slowed, remove the pot from the heat.
  • Add the popcorn to a large bowl and slowly drizzle the melted butter over while mixing. Add salt to taste and mix. Add any other flavorings you will be adding now as well.

Notes

Popcorn will last up to 2 days in an airtight container.
DO NOT leave oil in pot unattended.
