Creamy Oatmeal
This creamy oatmeal is the best way I have ever eaten oatmeal. I used to think oatmeal was some sort of thick paste that made my stomach turn just looking at it. Turns out, there was just a better way to eat it!

I ignore the directions on the bag when it comes to making oatmeal. I add a lot more liquid to it and cook mine with both water and milk! I also add some heavy cream at the end and butter. Talk about a creamy concoction!
I remember being a kid and being served a bowl of oatmeal that I dreaded eating. It was thick, sticky and flavorless. As a cereal lover, I needed a healthier replacement so I set out to create a delicious oatmeal recipe that my family would love and others would approve of. It is in fact a favorite breakfast of mine now, even our children request it which says a lot!

How do you make Creamy Oatmeal?
- In a small pot on medium heat, add in the oats, water and salt then bring it to a boil until it thickens. Make sure to stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick to the bottom.
- Once it starts thickening stir continuously until most of the water is gone, remove the pot from the heat and stir in the milk, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix until combined, butter will melt once it returns to the heat. I measure the brown sugar before the butter so my measuring spoon isn’t covered in butter when wanting to add the brown sugar.
- Return the pot to medium heat and once it starts to boil turn to medium low once again and allow it to thicken again. Make sure to stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick to the bottom.
- Once it thickens up again to the desired texture, add in the heavy cream and mix.
- Heat and mix until desired creaminess and then remove it from the heat.
- Serve your oatmeal with additional brown sugar if wanted and add any toppings you’d like. I usually add a little extra brown sugar and more heavy cream.

How do you store leftover oatmeal?
Store it in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
How do you re-heat oatmeal?
Add the oatmeal to a microwave safe bowl along with some additional milk or cream. Stir it in and re-heat in the microwave. You can also add it to a pot with some extra milk or cream and reheat it on medium low heat.
